USING ZOOM
Zoom is a web video conferencing tool used by the Fairing Way team, its residents and their families. We use Zoom instead of other applications because it allows us to connect easily and to speak with each other without any hassles. While there is a paid version that we use, the Zoom app is available to use for free with some restrictions. We are embracing Zoom during this time of social distancing because it allows us to participate in events where we can all see each other and join in the discussion together, whether we are on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or phone.
ZOOM UPDATE
Zoom has experienced an exponential rise in use over the past 4 weeks, and, unfortunately, a rise in individuals attempting to harass or “troll” by entering open meetings uninvited. While it is not family-friendly to describe some people’s experiences with these “trolls,” we want to prevent any interruption to programming and have increased meeting security to circumvent any issues. Beginning the week of April 13, all Zoom meetings will now be secured with a password for access. Please refer to our Zoom guide for additional information.
SETTING UP ZOOM
SETTING UP ZOOM IS EASY!
We understand that technology may not come easily to seniors who are using new programs. Fortunately, Zoom is one of the easiest programs to use! The following guide is as simplified a walk through as we could muster.
Family members – a part of this guide involves setting up meetings using a “Join From Browser” feature with Zoom. We are asking everyone sending a meeting link to residents to use this feature to make the process as simple as possible.
NOTE: This guide has been updated with a page on Zoom meeting passwords.
